What’s The Purpose of WordPress + The Voice Theme?
Our blog is the hub of our business. It’s the place where all of our new articles or podcast episodes go so that people can easily find them. It’s where you can find the entire list of our product offerings. It’s also the place where anyone can easily learn more about us and get in contact to work with us.
People usually initially discover us as a result of our blog and people usually get on our mailing list after consuming content from our blog. Needless to say, it’s a pretty vital element to our company… Not to mention, I (Matt) built up and sold a pretty good sized company called Learn To Blog… My entire career has revolved around blogging in some shape or form. For all of this, we use a self-hosted WordPress blog and a premium WordPress theme called The Voice Theme.
WordPress is one of the most popular platforms on the internet for creating websites (not just blogs). WordPress powers over 27% of all websites on the entire internet. The amount of plugins and themes that are available grow every single day. The amount of customization and additional functionality that’s available is mind blowing. If you’re going to have a blog, WordPress is the most widely supported, documented, and customizable platform on the planet… And it’s free to download and use on your own server.
As far as the Voice Theme, we just really liked the layout and design of the theme. It’s very customizable, it’s very clean and minimalistic and it’s very easy to make our calls to action the focal points of our website.
How We Use It In Our Business:
Our blog is the content hub of our business. All of our podcast episodes, blog posts, and YouTube videos end up on our blog. It also serves as a place to make it easy for people to find our products and to contact our business or customer support.
We use this combo of WordPress with The Voice Theme for all blogs we ever create, including blogs/content sites that we make in other niches and to promote affiliate offers. Using consistent systems for all of our content sites makes it easier for us and our team to manage content.
How You Can Use It In YOUR Business:
Here are our hacks and tricks we do when working with WordPress and the Voice Theme:
- Remove the sidebar on your content. People are basically blind to the content on the sidebar anyway. Instead make your content the full width and add slide-ins and exit-intent popups for your calls to action (discussed in the next section).
- Make sure that you have your Facebook retargeting pixel installed on all pages of your blog. The Voice theme makes this easy in the settings. You can then retarget people with ads on Facebook based on what content they viewed. For example, if someone reads a post about chatbots, we’d retarget them on Facebook with an ad to our course on chatbots. We can segment who sees our ads based on content that they already consumed.
- Install the “AMP” plugin to create instant load times for your content on Google and install the WordPress SEO by Yoast plugin to help your content rank better. Just adding these two plugins will greatly improve your ability to rank on Google.
- I wrote an entire book on WordPress called “WordPress Revealed.” I even recently updated it for 2017 with all the latest plugins and blogging tactics that we use.
